The Friends of Baucau were delighted to welcome 4 members of UNAP from the Sub-district of Baucau to Melbourne in February 2012. The significance of the visit is only slowly being realised as we hear the stories from our guests and the staff at the places they visited when they were here. What is clear is that their visit has been an important community building opportunity for members of the Yarra and Darebin organisations who met with our guests. During these visits they spoke of their enthusiasm for providing greater support to the work of Friends of Baucau. They are now more aware of how they could contribute to the Friendship Partnership and are very keen to keep in touch in the future. There is strong community interest in Timor-Leste in the Cities of Darebin and Yarra!

You are invited to attend the Melbourne East Timorese Activity Centre (METAC) Welcome Dinner. The December Dinner is the last of the year and is being sponsored by Friends of Baucau.

There will be a CD launch by supporters of the Fuan Nabilan Centre in Same, Timor-Leste and music by members of the Dili Allstars.

Timor Leste Photography Exhibition

Chris Whitelaw’s exhibition, The Shades of November is opening at 6pm on Thursday 25th November 2010.

Please note the exhibition now runs until 28th Janurary at Manuka Arts Centre in Griffith, ACT.

Thornbury Women’s Neighbourhood House – Women’s Dinner

Thornbury Women’s Neighbourhood House – Women’s Dinner may be of interest to some of you if for no other reason than that the guest speaker is Annie Keogh, who many Friends of Timor-Leste will know.

Annie is a local resident recently returned from Timor-Leste after 8 years. Annie worked with many organisations to help set up education and training while she lived in East Timor. At the dinner she will share her story about being in East Timor during the early years of this new nation.

Pan African Choir
This popular choir has worked with many of Melbourne’s African musicians. A community choir run by directors Jen Skate & Chris Lesser, the choir fundraises to support the International needs Adidome project, which helps to liberate Ghanaian women who have been taken into a life of slavery. Join the choir in some African dancing!
